LENS IMPLANTATION

LINSENIMPLANTATION

In the past, those who wanted to see well without glasses had to have their eyes lasered. For a few years now, however, there has been a gentle alternative: the high-tech lenses correct even severe refractive errors and, if necessary, correct the cataract or prevent it from developing in the first place.

The implantable contact lens (ICL) is placed in front of the natural lens and corrects refractive errors from -20 to +8 diopter. In patients over the age of 40, it is worth replacing the natural lens with an artificial lens. Not only will they see sharply, but they will probably not develop cataracts.

In the case of already existing cataracts, an operation with the artificial lenses ensures that the patients no longer need glasses after the operation.

Since the lenses usually remain in the eye for a lifetime, the price is of course manageable. Compare how much you would pay for contact lenses or glasses over the course of your life!

During the operation, a small incision is sufficient to carefully crush and suction the lens with ultrasound or the nanolaser. After that, the new artificial lens is inserted. Most patients have good experiences with artificial lenses. In 98% of cases, there are no problems. Artificial lenses could be an option for you if you are short-sighted, far-sighted or presbyopia and want to do without glasses or contact lenses. Even if you are severely refractive or have a thin cornea, therefore cannot use laser treatment of the cornea. Even if you have a strong corneal curvature, are looking for an alternative to the laser or are suffering from cataracts.

The nanolaser is the latest development in lens surgery: Short laser pulses in the nanosecond range liquefy the lens in a gentle way. Much less heat and energy is directed into the eye than with the ultrasound procedure, which makes the nanolaser much gentler on the surrounding tissues. The nanolaser is also known for its high precision and safety.

Eye corrections with artificial lenses have only been carried out for a few years in the case of short-sightedness, presbyopia. However, the technique of implantation has been in use for some time, as it is the standard treatment method for cataracts. Cataract surgery, on the other hand, is one of the most common operations in medicine.

Lens implantation for short-sightedness or farsightedness is considered a low-risk and painless eye operation. A few hours after we have inserted the artificial eye lens, you can leave the hospital again. You do not feel the artificial lens after surgery.
